With the vision in mind, “Education of the welfare of the Masses” Hon’ ble  Prin. M. R. Desai and Hon’ ble Bar. Khardekar  gave birth  to an  educational institute, “The shikshanprasarakmandal” in 1945. The Institutes milestone in the excellence of higher education was step up a Gopal Krushna Gokhale College in rural area. within a decade college become well known multi faculty institute in western Maharashtra.

During 1969-70 the growing need and demand of specialization Hon’ ble Prin. M. R. Desai offered Geography as a principal subject to B.A.III Final year student. Pro.K.mKeche,awell known teacher was Head of the Department at that time. Due course of time shivaji university started P.G. Geography cours, boosted the development of our Geography Department. 

Mr.M.K.SawantM.Sc.Geography First class and fist rank holder in Shivaji University joined as a lecture during 15th June 1973 and became in charg of the department in june 1974. The vision, inspiration & facilities offered by Hon’ble Prin. M. R. Desai sahib gave present set up of Geography Department wit separate well equipped laboratory during 1979-1980.

The tradition of Hon’ble Prin. M. R. Desai sahib is continued through Hon. secretary late Shri Dilipraodesai and Hon ble  secretary prof. Jaykmarji Desai in the adavancment of Geography Department, during nineties prin. C.D.Joshis visualization and prin. C.R.Godses and PrinMrs.S.V.Desais support boosted the department. Prin, S.D.Sathe along with office administrative staff of the college are keen format of the Geography Department intact.

Mean while during 1969-1977 few Geography teachers Mr. PrakashSawant, Mr. Kdam, Mr. M.L.Kanshinde worked as a lecturer in the department for one or two year.

During 1977-78 Mr.S.G.Khadake, Mr. R.G.Phalke joined as a leaturer and Mr.M.BIngavale as a lab. Attendant Simultaneously growth of Geography Junior wing witnessed addition of three more lecture Mr.A.U.Patil, Mr. S.N. More. Mr. V.A.Pawar In the academic year 2006-2007 Mr. S.A. Menashi, Mr.S.K.Patil, Mrs.S.A.Patil joined as a lecture for senior wing. All the staff members of Geography Department are working sincerely in keeping academic standard and scholarly base intact, outcome which Geography become first choice among student.
